Marie lies multiple times to her husband and her mother because she fears they'll think she's crazy if she tells the truth. Without her husband's knowledge, she befriends a man and is alone with him on several occasions. While this friendship remains innocent on her part, the man eventually makes a vague suggestion that there could be more between them. (Marie rejects this idea.)​
